KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in KCK on Monday afternoon at the Royal Ridge Apartments near 73rd and State, and officers are actively looking for a suspect.
The shooting happened at 2:40 p.m., and a witness told FOX 4 the victim is a black male in his 20s. The witness reported hearing four or five gunshots before seeing the victim walk out an apartment door and collapse on the ground, wounded in the chest or stomach by gunfire.
Police identified the victim Tuesday as 25-year-old Markie T. Murray of Kansas City, Kan.
"Officers arrived, found the subject face-down on the ground and he was confirmed dead by EMS," said Officer Cameron Morgan. "A lot of neighbors heard things and saw some things, so we’re talking to the neighbors. We got everybody here in an apartment complex, they’re being real cooperative with us. So we’re just going gather that information right now and go get the suspects."

This is KCK's 32nd homicide of 2016 after the city had 33 in all of 2015.
"It has been a slight uptick, and our officers are working hard. Our detectives, really are working extra hard at solving these crimes but they actually have a really high solvability rate this year, so we’re doing our best," said Officer Morgan. "It’s the community relationships, really. We can’t do it by ourselves, so talking to the community, they’re coming up with information, they’re being open with us and telling us everything that they know. That really helps out our detectives."
