KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- If you've been thinking about adding a pet to your family, this may be the weekend to act.

All three of the big pet shelters in Kansas City are overrun with animals, and they are trying to make room for more.

As a result, KC Pet Project, Wayside Waifs and Great Plains SPCA are joining forces with huge specials this weekend.

There is no denying that life in a pet shelter is stressful on the animals. It's bright, loud,  and confined. The bottom line is these pets are ready for rescue.

According to Tori Fugate at KC Pet Project, "We are all about how long the animal is gonna stay in the shelter. If we can get them out as quickly as possible that is the best way. They would much better be in a home with you than here."

Shelters across the city are filled.

"With all of our locations we are all so full and all of our locations are so full with so many animals coming into KC pet project, Great Plains SPCA, and Wayside Waifs. We wanted to come together for this wonder special," says Fugate.

That special means just $35 will allow you to take home any animal in any of the three big KC shelters, including puppies and kittens.

All the animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and treated for any problems they came in with.

Fugate explains, "It barely covers the cost of the vaccinations we give them. It's because of the support of James B. Nutter and Co. that we are able to offer this great deal on all of our pets during KC Mega Match."

All the shelters are begging for your help.

There are even small animals up for adoption, like rabbits, chinchillas and rats. Their cost is much less than the $35 special on dogs and cats.

The special runs through Sunday night. You can take a look at all the adoptable pets on the on the websites for KC Pet Project, or Great Plains SPCA, or Wayside Waifs.
