Shawnee mom accused of threatening girl with baseball bat for bullying her 9-yr-old son
SHAWNEE, Kan. — A 25-year-old Shawnee woman is charged with aggravated assault in Johnson County after she was arrested for allegedly threatening a child with a baseball bat. According to charging documents, on Sunday at about 6:35 p.m., West’s nine-year-old son was beaten up on the basketball court of Shawnee Station Apartments, 6405 Maurer Rd. The court documents say the boy ran home to West, who police say drove to the basketball court with a baseball bat. Witnesses say she threatened an 11-year-old girl with the bat.
In a Facebook Live on Monday night, Frances West told what led up to the confrontation. See below.(Foul language warning)
“He’s on the ground and he has 4 kids on top of him and they’re videotaping this. So I chase these kids off. They take off running,” she explained what happened before she brought out the bat.
The next day she said she was sitting on her porch watching her son throwing a football back and forth with a friend. Then they wanted to play with the Nerf gun. So he asked if he could go to Wal-Mart. While he was walking home from Wal-Mart he got jumped by ten kids, she says. He came running into the house with two black eyes and a big knot on his forehead, saying he didn’t want to live anymore, West says.
Her son says they repeatedly hit him in the head and slammed his head on the concrete.
“I don’t fight kids. I’m not going to fight kids,” she said.
She said the kids left without a scratch on them. Nobody was touched by the bat.
West’s bond was set at $2,500.
