Customers of Vera Bradley are a bit uneasy after the handbag and accessories company announced Wednesday that their customer data information was targeted by hackers.

The company said hackers may have accessed customer data including credit card numbers, cardholder names, expiration dates, and internal verification codes between July 25 and Sept. 23. They said cards used on their website have not been affected.

A statement on the Vera Bradley website said they were notified by law enforcement on Sept. 15 of the data security issue.

The company said they have re-secured their data and will continue to work with their IT security firm to “further strengthen the security of our systems to help prevent this from happening again.”

Vera Bradley recommends customers check their credit card statements as soon as possible, and continue to monitor them closely in the upcoming months.
