LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- Construction crews are putting the final touches on the state-of-the-art innovation campus in Lee's Summit Thursday morning.
The topping out the beam ceremony will take place at 8 a.m. at the Summit Technology Academy just east of 50-Highway.
During the ceremony construction crews will place a nearly 1200 pound beam on top of the structure to top it off after a small ceremony.
Construction on the campus began in March.
High school juniors take college courses in science, technology, engineering and math, ( STEM classes). They earn their associates degree by high school graduation and finish their education at UCM. Thanks to a 2015 bond issue, The Academy is a cost saving partnership between Lee Summit R-7 school district paying 40-percent and UCM paying 60-percent.
The entire program is scheduled to be housed in the new building next summer.
