KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police and prosecutors continue to ask many frustrating questions about how a three-year-old Kansas City boy was shot and killed Thursday morning at an apartment complex near 19th and Topping Ave.
According to family members who spoke to FOX 4's Robert Townsend, the victim is Jermone Green, 3.
Relatives say for the past year Jermone, his two siblings and his mom lived in the apartment. They also said Jermone's mother is pregnant.
Kansas City, Mo. Police Chief Darryl Forte tweeted that Jermone's death was not the result of a drive-by shooting.
Police say paramedics tried to revive Jermone, but he couldn't be saved. It was news that affected others in the apartment complex when they learned that the boy was gone.
"I couldn't imagine losing mine," said resident Justin Carr. "I know they hurt."
Family members rushed to the scene when they heard. Officers comforted Jermone's relatives as they stood crying.
"I just hope they get through it and get the help they can," said Carr.
One neighbor, Gigi Gates said within minutes, police officers, detectives, community leaders including the police chief and county prosecutors arrived at the apartment behind hers.
"I looked out and just saw all the yellow tape and everything," said Gates. "It's very sad. I mean, just to hear there's a loss. A child being lost, dying. That has to be very hard for the family."
"All I can ask is for everybody to keep them in their prayers and just pray the truth is revealed," said Gates.
