KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- As Black Friday is coming to an end, employees at local businesses all over the metro are making final touches for their biggest day of the year: Small Business Saturday.

Business owners in Brookside pride themselves on being local. They say it helps keep them afloat.

Jim Ward's family opened Brookside Toy and Science back in the 1960's. He has carried on the tradition and says Kansas City has continued to support it, but it's not always easy. Jim says Small Business Saturday is a day that really helps his store shine. He says his store is constantly giving back to the metro and it's nice to see his community return the favor.

"It became a tremendous help for me. It made people realize to keep unique owner operated stores and business, that people needed to come shop here," Ward said.
