Vacant home near St. John and Topping catches fire, causes windows of neighboring home to break

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Firefighters in Kansas City, Mo., worked quickly Tuesday morning to put out flames at a home near St. John and Topping to prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes.

According to the battalion chief, the call came in around 5:15 a.m.

The house, which was vacant and boarded up, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The fire was so hot, it caused the windows of a neighboring home to break.

An elderly woman was taken from that neighboring home on a stretcher, but the battalion chief says she was not physically injured. The woman will stay with friends or relatives until repairs can be made to her home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
