Will “Don’t Breathe” make you gasp? What about “Pete’s Dragon,” “The BFG” and “Ab Fab?” Popcorn Bag Home Video Reviews!

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Will "Don't Breathe" make you gasp? What about "Pete's Dragon," "The BFG" and "Ab Fab?" FOX 4's Russ Simmons and Shawn Edwards have the answers in this week's Popcorn Bag Home Video Reviews!

1) DON'T BREATHE (R)

Screen Gems/Stage 6 Films

RUSS

There are times while watching “Don’t Breathe” that you probably won’t. Yes, it’s yet another sordid, R-rated horror flick, but it’s an exceptionally well made edge-of-your-seat chiller.

SHAWN

The problem is it's more of a thriller than a horror movie. That's because "Don't Breath" just isn't that scary. It's just not. The only thing that is original is that the man is blind. It's basically the same premise from countless horror films except the dude can't see. If that makes this film smart then this is a horror movie for dummies.

RUSS

Three young and foolish thieves break into the house of a blind man, thinking they’ll make off with easy money. Their victim, however, is a former military man who turns the tables on them. Smart and original, “Don’t Breathe” may very well take your breath away.

2) PETE'S DRAGON (PG)

Walt Disney

RUSS

Disney goes back to the well for yet another reboot of one of their family film classics. “Pete’s Dragon" is a sweet but by-the-numbers remake that features state of the art CGI. It may be a bit too intense for the very young, but it’s a likable popcorn flick.

SHAWN

It's wholesome and fun enough. At times feels forced. You can tell Disney is chasing after the timeless tag. Maybe. But ultimately, it’s a really suitable family friendly movie.

3) THE BFG (PG)

Walt Disney

RUSS

“The BFG” is Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s popular children’s story about a Big Friendly Giant who befriends a young girl and protects her from flesh-eating behemoths.

SHAWN

I liked "BFG" a lot. Directed by Steven Spielberg and written by the person who wrote E.T. this children's tale is propelled by Mark Rylance's remarkable performance as the friendly giant. While it's no "E.T." there are several moments that exemplify Spielberg's back in the day magic.

RUSS
Mark Rylance’s motion capture performance is terrific in this whimsical tale that’s loaded with eye-popping special effects. It’s likable, but unusually sluggish for a Spielberg movie.

4) ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS: THE MOVIE (R)

Fox Searchlight Pictures

RUSS

The hard drinking, hard partying fashionistas from British TV’s popular sitcom “Absolutely Fabulous” have transitioned to the movies. Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley have returned for the breezy farce, “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie." Fans will be glad that the girls are still clueless in their senior years, but those unfamiliar with the show will wonder what all of the fuss was about.
