Kansas City teens charged in Dec. 8 double homicide

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two Kansas City teens have been charged in a Dec. 8 double homicide on Kansas City’s east side, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Tyren Lamar, 17, faces two counts of 1st degree murder, one count of 1st degree robbery and three counts of armed criminal action, while Seth S. Reed, 18, faces two counts of 2nd degree murder, 1st degree robbery, and three counts of armed criminal action.

On Dec. 8, Kansas City police responded to a home at 39th and Chestnut and found the bodies of Jonathan Echols, 54, and Freddie Jones, 52, both shot fatally multiple times.

Witnesses said the defendants had gone there to rob the victims, who let them into the residence.

Lamar and Reed were arrested on Dec. 15.

Prosecutors requested bonds of $300,000 for Reed and $500,000 for Lamar.
