KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Fire crews were called to the scene of a duplex fire in Kansas City, Kan., Monday morning.
Firefighters responded to a call of the building "engulfed in flames," around 10 a.m. on Walker Avenue near Holt Street.
The chief later tweeted that everyone was out of the structure, and that firefighters were taking "defensive only" measures. He added that there was a potential danger of stored hazardous materials.
Firefighters said ammunition stored inside the building also posed a threat.
"They tried stopping it from getting to the house but it was just so, so big that there was just nothing they could do," said Tyler Peters, neighbor.
Everyone inside the house escaped safely.
