Driver dead following crash near St. John and Askew, child transported to hospital with serious injuries

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person died in a Sunday night single-vehicle crash in Kansas City.

Emergency crews responded to the scene near St. John Avenue and N. Askew Avenue around 7:45 p.m.

Police say the vehicle left the roadway and struck a metal utility pole. The driver was transported to an area hospital where they were pronounced dead. There was child in the backseat in a booster seat. The child was transported to an area hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not yet released the victim’s identity.
