OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Overland Park police are searching for the person who shot and killed a young man in an apartment complex Thursday evening. The shooting happened at the Lodge Apartments -- near Metcalf and West 107th.

A woman was also grazed by a bullet, but is okay. Witnesses reported hearing eight gun shots, and investigators say the suspect knew the victim and that this was an isolated incident. Regardless, people in the area hope witnesses are ready to speak up.

“If you want your kids to grow up and not worry about every time you hear a loud noise that your kid got shot. Nobody wants that people need to open their mouths and let people know , like hey this is what happened I saw it and start putting these people where they belong because it's not gonna stop,” said Brittney Myers, who works near the apartment complex.

Police say they know who this suspect is, but are not releasing his name or photo yet. They are hoping to speak with him soon. FOX 4 will update about an arrest and charges in this case as this story develops.
