EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. -- An eagle injured in the Smithville tornado will spend some time in an animal hospital. The Clay County Department of Conservation found the eagle near Smithville Lake earlier this week.

The tornado destroyed the bird's nest, and injured its wing. The bird likely walked several hundred yards from where it landed -- back to its nest site.

This weekend, the eagle will go to a clinic in Columbia, Mo., for repairs to its wing.
