A new survey finds 18 percent of Americans say cost keeps them away from the doctor. For many of those people, it could be a lack of health insurance, or high out of pocket costs with insurance that keeps them at home. But a higher number - 21 percent - have non-financial reasons for staying away.
According to the survey, taking time off of work and being able to make an appointment at a convenient time were cited by more people than health care costs as reasons to stay away from the doctor, and now many health care professionals say that improving access for patients is becoming a priority.
