Officials break ground on $15M aquarium at Crown Center.

Kansas City is hundreds of miles from an ocean, but next spring the ocean will come to us as officials broke ground on a new $15 million aquarium at Crown Center on Wednesday.

Sea Life Aquarium is set to open late next spring in the former Hall’s department store. The two-story aquarium will include a journey down the Missouri River to the Mississippi River to the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, and will feature sharks, seahorses, starfish and rays, along with a walk-through underwater tunnel.

The aquarium will take up the former first floor and part of the second floor of the old Hall’s store.
