Report: Sandusky Lawyer Impregnated Teen Client
The lawyer for accused child rapist and former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky is no stranger to child sex controversies, as he fathered a child with a teenage girl according to a media report on Tuesday.
According to the report in The Daily, 63-year-old defense attorney Joe Amendola impregnated and later married a 16-year-old girl while he served as her attorney during her attempt to emancipate herself from her parents.
In documents filed in with the Centre County (Penn.) Courthouse, Amendola served as the attorney for Mary Iavasile’s emancipation petition in September of 1996, several weeks before her 17th birthday, The Daily reports.
Iavasile’s mother, Janet Iavasile, alleges that her daughter became pregnant with Amendola’s child shortly thereafter, giving birth before she turned 18.
Amendola, born in 1948, was around 49 years old at the time of the birth, The Daily reports.
“At the time, I didn’t know the extent of the relationship,” Janet Iavasile told The Daily, saying that she considered the lawyer to be more of a “mentor” to her daughter at the time.
The couple married in 2003, but have since separated. Mary Amendola, now 32, did not respond to requests for comment, The Daily reports.
