OLATHE, Kan. - Residents at an Olathe apartment complex are looking for a place to stay after a fire gutted several apartments on Friday afternoon, sending thick black smoke high into the sky and visible from miles away.

According to firefighters, the blaze broke out shortly after 4:00 p.m. at the Ridgeview Apartments in the 1800 block of North Lennox Street. When firefighters arrived on the scene, flames and smoke were pouring from the west section of the complex - which is divided into three sections of 12 apartments each.

Firefighters say that they were able to stop the fire from spreading to the middle and east sections of the building.

There were no injuries reported in the fire, but the blaze has displaced residents in all 36 apartments in the building. The American Red Cross is working to help those residents.

Olathe fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
