While you're hunting down the best Black Friday deals, thieves could be hunting you down. Retired FBI agent, Jeff Lanza, stopped by FOX 4 News at 9 a.m. to tell us how to be sure you're not a target. Some of his tips are listed below.

Parking Lot Safety:

  • Do not park next to vans, trucks, campers or cars with tinted windows
  • Do not park next to shrubs or walls where someone could hide
  • Never leave anything of value visible in your car (GPS, phones, iPods, etc)
  • Always park in a well-lit area
  • Try to never walk alone

ATM Security:

  • Best to use ATMS inside buildings
  • Outside ones -- only use in well-lit locations
  • Avoid drive-through ATMs - you can easily be blocked in
  • Closely monitor bank statements after using ATM

Mall Security:

  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash
  • Carry only your driver's license and necessary credit and debit cards
  • Carry wallet in front pocket, not back
  • Always have hand on your wallet
