SAN DIEGO -- Your four-legged friend is now safer on the beaches of San Diego. Life guards have been equipped with new, life-saving devices made specifically for dogs.

The non-profit group Emma Zen donated oxygen masks to aid in the CPR of canines.

"A big part of our beach community has pets as part of their family," said Del Mar lifeguard Thomas Bryant. "And they feel strongly that they're just as important as their family, and we're thankful to be able to save any life, whether human or pet."

The non-profit group's president adds that the masks fit and work for cats and household-size pets too.
