WASHINGTON D.C. — You might want to check your junk drawers for those old dollar coins. The U.S. Treasury Department has announced they will stop making the commemorative presidential dollar coin.

While the coins last longer than dollar bills, the coins have lost their popularity. In fact, the treasury said it has more than a billion dollar coins sitting unused in its vaults. That’s enough to meet demand for more than a decade.

The decision to stop making the coins is expected to save taxpayers $50 million annually over the next few years.

The treasury said it will still make the coins available to collectors.
