School Bus Beating Caught on Cell Phone Camera

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Police are investigating after an Independence middle school student was attacked on a school bus by another student in an incident captured on a cell phone camera.

The victim, a 13-year-old girl whose name has not been released, was attacked on the bus on December 9th. The cell phone video shows a girl beating the victim for several seconds.

The Independence School District acknowledged the fight, but refused to discuss it. In a written statement, the district said that they, "all situations like this seriously. The safety of our students is up utmost importance."

One parent who asked not to be identified told us this latest incident just adds to the reasons she will never allow her daughter ride the bus to school.

"This is one reason why she hasn't been riding the school bus since kindergarten is because of the violence, the possibilities of violence, and I know other things that have happened on the buses before that haven't been reported. She will not ride the school bus now for sure," said the mother.

The victim's father filed a police report against the alleged attacker. The student attacker faces suspension from the school for up to 180 days and the possibility of not riding the school bus for the rest of the school year.

Authorities say that the cell phone video could now possibly be used as evidence against the juvenile attacker.
