Police Officer Shoots, Kills Pedestrian New Year’s Day

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Police are investigating after an officer shot and killed a person in the early-morning hours on New Year’s day.

Police said the officer responded to the 4000 block of North 55th Street in Kansas City, Kan., to conduct a pedestrian check on a suspicious person. Police said a struggle began between the suspect and the officer, and the officer fired his gun, killing the suspect.

The suspect’s name has not been released pending family notification and the incident remains under police investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816.474.TIPS.
