Highway 69 to be Closed at 159th Street
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — U.S. 69 Highway will be closed at 159th Street beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, and will reopen at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8.
Southbound traffic will exit the highway at 151st Street, and directed to go south on Metcalf; northbound traffic will exit at 179th Street, and directed to go north on Metcalf.
Also, 159th Street will be closed at U.S. 69 Highway for the same time. Alternate routes include 151st or 167th streets.
Work this weekend includes the demolition of the 159th Street Bridge. This closure is required for construction of new bridges over U.S. 69 Highway as part of the 159th Street, Antioch to Metcalf, project.
Improvements include storm sewers, turn lanes, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, street lights, and bridges over U.S. 69 Highway to complete a four-lane divided thoroughfare between Antioch and Metcalf.
Construction of interchange ramps for access to U.S. 69 Highway is not included in this project. However, the project is designed to receive ramps in the future, when funding is available.
Construction cost for the current project is $8.1 million and completion is set for later this fall.
As a new 159th Street bridge is built, it will require additional short-term closures of the highway. The next projected scheduled closure is in March.
