Kansas City BBQ Seitan

Ingredients:

  • 2 c. Vital Wheat Gluten
  • 1/4 c. Vegetable Oil
  • 2 c. water
  • 4 tbsp. Tamari sauce
  • 1 tbsp. sea salt
  • 1 tbsp. cumin
  • 2 tbsp. crushed garlic
  • 1 tsp. thyme
  • Carrots
  • Onions

 Instructions:

  • Combine all ingredients into large mixing bowl until it forms into a moist dough
  • Place in a greased baking pan, evenly dispersed
  • Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour, covered
  • Remove from oven and marinate with additional oil, tamari, (and water as needed) to coat top
  • Bake for 30 additional minutes uncovered
  • Cool, then thinly slice (as you would roast beef).

Stir fry carrots and onions.  When almost finished, add diced tomato and your favorite BBQ sauce and herbs to taste.  Add sliced seitan and mix.

Enjoy alone, on a sandwich or over a bed of rice!
