MERRIAM, Kan. — Merriam, Kansas doesn’t have many murders. Now, police are struggling to figure out who killed a mother of five.

Toby Rock’s family is asking for help. Her body was found on January 20 at the Homestead Suites Hotel. Nearly two dozen detectives are trying to figure out what happened and who killed Rock.

On Monday, the Metro Squad will reconvene to search for clues in her death.

Her family says she had struggles in her life and wasn’t the best person, but she was a good person and loving mother.

Police have not said how the 37-year old was killed, but say there were obvious signs of trauma. Her body was found by a maid at the hotel located near I-35 & Shawnee Mission Parkway. Her children range in age between eight and 22-years-old.

The woman’s mother and sister say she struggled with a drug addiction, but never exposed it to her children and spent regular time with them. Rock lived with her family and kids in Topeka, but often visited the Kansas City area. Her family wants to let the public know she meant a lot to them.

“I want everyone to know that she has family, people that love her, children that love her,”  said the victim’s mother Kathy Bowman.

Police are looking for a man captured on surveillance cameras at the hotel. They say he was in the lobby at the same time Rock checked in and he might’ve come with her. If you have any information on this incident call Merriam Police are the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
