CANADA — It wasn’t a mechanical problem or weather that delayed an Air Canada flight Wednesday morning, but instead a tricky and playful cat who escaped from its cage.

Canada Flight 603 was an early morning flight that was supposed to take off at 5:40 a.m. but Ripples, a 10-year-old, short-haired Tabby cat changed everyone’s plans.

In checking the cat’s crate, airport security opened the latches and apparently didn’t secure the one in the back properly, allowing Ripples to escape. The cat ran into first class and then into the cockpit where he slid under the captain’s feet and then behind some electrical panels.

Ground control was called in to remove the panels and free the animal, but doing so took a few hours and frustrated passengers.
