KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City mom is celebrating a year's worth of holidays with her son. He's been stationed in Afghanistan and hasn't been at home.
Michael Caudill hasn't seen his mother and family in more than a year. He was a little embarrassed by all of the attention, but happy to be reunited with family.
"It's good to see family, see them laugh and hug them," Caudill said.
The last year has been especially tough on his mother Tammy.
"A lot of sleepless nights," said Tammy Holman said.
After the first round of hugs were done, the mother took something from around her neck. She took off his dog tags which she's worn since he was deployed.
"It's my way of staying close to him and him close to me and now he's home and safe," she said. "I don't have to wear them anymore, means the world to me."
Caudill will be home for 10 days then he's off to Germany. His mom says the visit will get her through until the next time she finds herself waiting at the airport for her son to return.
