THE COLONY, Tex. -- A Texas woman delivers her baby two weeks early so her dying husband could hold their baby. Mark Aulger learned during the Christmas holidays that he'd beat cancer.
Aulger didn't know that eight months of chemo therapy had destroyed his lungs. In January, he was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and only given days to live. His pregnant wife Diane was induced two weeks early so he could meet their daughter.
Diane delivered their daughter Savannah just in time. Mark was the first to hold the baby when she was born. The trio laid in the hospital with mother and daughter recovering while Mark was living his last days. He fell into a coma a few days after Savannah was born.
Augler's story touched many people in their Texas community. Volunteers completed work on the family's home including a new roof that Mark had hoped to finish once he was released from the hospital.
Mark Aulger died holding his newborn daughter. He left behind a wife and five kids.
