Home Invasion Ends in Murder-Suicide in Leavenworth County

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, Kan. — Two men are dead in Leavenworth County, Kan., after a man barged into a home, killing the homeowner and then himself Wednesday night. The shooting happened near 164th and Dana Lane just outside Lansing, Kansas.

Police said 66-year-old J. O’Brien died when the suspect entered the home and shot him in the chest. Police said the suspect is the current boyfriend or ex-boyfriend of O’Brien’s daughter, Stacy O’Brien.

Stacy was also home at the time of the shooting and was shot, but managed to run out of the house with her mother who was not injured.

After the assault, police said the suspect went outside and shot and killed himself.

Police said Stacy was taken to an area hospital but is expected to be okay.

Police have not released the name of the suspect at this time.
