Metropolitan Community College Ranks #1
A new study by the Chronicle of Higher Education ranks Metropolitan Community College’s Business & Technology campus as having the highest graduation rate among any of the state’s two-year colleges.
The study looked at first time, full time students at two-year colleges. According to the study, MCC-Business & Technology topped the list graduating 66% its first-time, full-time students graduating on time. The state average is 12 percent.
“These numbers are a real badge of honor for us we’re very proud of them even though we would certainly like to see competition rates higher than 66% we’d prefer to see them at around 80% or 90%, but students have complicated lives so they are dropping out for a variety of reasons,” says Deborah Goodall, President of MCC.
The college’s new release says MCC-Business & Technology offers 45 certificate and degree programs that prepare students for high-skill, high-demand positions in engineering technology, industrial design, precision machining, industrial mechanics/maintenance, welding and computer networking. From 2009 to 2011, the number of students earning degrees and certificates grew 74 percent. From fall 2008 to fall 2011, the campus’s student headcount increased 58 percent.
