Nine-Year-Old Gets Summoned for Jury Duty
YARMOUTH, Mass. — If only Jacob Clark was nine years older, he could miss a day in his third grade class and spend it in a court room fulfilling his civic duty after being summoned for jury duty.
But Jacob is only nine, nine years too young to be a juror.
When the summons came in the mail, Jacob asked, “What’s jury duty?”
It seems there was a mistake in the census records of his hometown of Yarmouth, Mass. Records indicate Jacob was born in 1982, which would make him 30. He was first summoned fur jury duty at the age of two. He didn’t make it to court that time either.
But all this judicial talk has given Jacob an understanding of how jury duty works — sort of.
“If you’re picked then you go up to a judge and you say if they’re guilty or not guilty.”
