KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A mud slide blocked the ramp from southbound 18th Street Expressway to Merriam Lane in Kansas City, Kan., early Thursday morning.

Heavy rains saturated the ground, causing a portion of the embankment along the road to give way. During the early morning hours while it was still dark, one driver’s tire was punctured after they hit some of the debris covering the road, however no injuries were reported.

Shortly after, the road was closed while a front end loader cleared the debris.

Witnesses said there may be a potential for more to give way, as sections of the embankment are cracked and appear loose, however, the road has since been reopened and drivers are free to travel through.
