Royals Shutout A’s, 3-0
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals (3-2, 3-2 away) blanked the Oakland Athletics (2-4, 2-4 home) 3-0 on Tuesday night in a game that was called in the top of the eighth inning due to heavy rain in Oakland, Calif.
Royals lefty Danny Duffy (1-0) pitched one of the best games of his young career. Duffy walked four, struck out eight, and gave up one hit in six innings.
Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain made an amazing catch and throw as he turned a double play from the warning track to first base in the second inning.
Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas hit an RBI double, and catcher Humberto Quintero hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to give the Royals a 2-0 lead.
After Lorenzo Cain suffered a minor injury, Royals outfielder Mitch Maier stepped in and crushed a home run to right field to give the Royals a 3-0 lead in the seventh.
Aaron Crow struck out two in the seventh and earned a default save once the game was called in the eighth due to rain.
The Royals try to win their second series of the season when they take on the A’s today in Oakland, Calif.
Royals lefty Bruce Chen is scheduled to start against A’s starter Brandon McCarthy.
