THURMAN, Iowa -- People are picking up in Iowa after a tornado destroyed 75 percent of the town. The small town consists of about 238 people.

The town's playground was flattened as well as most of the structures. Amazingly, no one was hurt. People believe the tornado warnings were sounded with enough time for people to take cover. The mayor set the alarm because his son said, "Dad, there's a tornado warning coming up for our town.' The mayor then went to the fire station to sound the audible alarm.

People living in the town say the incident lasted about five minutes from beginning to end. They have resolved to clean up and restore their town. They're just happy that no one died or was significantly hurt.

Approximately 50 crew members with KCPL left Kansas City for Des Moines on Sunday morning to assist MidAmerican Energy with restoration efforts following Saturday's storms. The KCP&L team consists of linemen and several support personnel, including safety employees, supervisors and mechanics.
