HOUSTON, Tex. -- Two young transplant recipients found love as they waited on heart transplants. Linda Thibodeaux and Jordan Merecka's romance began in the hospital.
They were both their waiting for heart transplants. Thibodeaux found a match in May, 2011. Texas Children's surgeons gave Merecka an artificial heart while he waited for a permanent one.
"Our physical therapists and our nurses decided that we should meet," Merecka said.
He went to visit Thibodeaux, dragging the 400 pound console that ran the artificial heart.
"It was kind of an awkward meeting at first," Merecka said.
The pair found out they had a lot in common.
"I'd never met anyone my age that was going through the same exact thing," Thibodeaux said.
"It was really nice to finally have someone to talk about who understood what I was going through," Merecka agreed.
When Merecka was near death in October, 2011, they finally found a heart for him. After that, the couple's friendship blossomed into a romance. Now, they both have new hearts and have given their new hearts to one another.
