Father, Grandmother, Aunt to Return to Missouri
CHICAGO — Jeffrey Stone, 33, the father who police say kidnapped his son Porter from a St. Louis hospital, waived extradition on Thursday morning in a Cook County courtroom in Illinois.
Jeffrey Stone and his mother, Rhonda Matthews, are charged with kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child. Bond has been set at $1 million dollars each.
Stone’s sister and the boy’s aunt, Heather Minton, 37, of Chico, Calif. also faces charges.
By waiving extradition, Porter, Matthews and Stone agreed that authorities can return them to the St. Louis area for prosecution.
Alsip and Illinois State Police located 5-year-old Porter Stone with his father, his grandmother Rhonda Matthews, and aunt at the Baymont Inn outside Chicago early Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday, Porter had just been released from Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, to go home to await heart transplant surgery. He lives with his mother, Tiffany Stone, near Kansas City and is on IV medication.
