KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police are searching for the person who struck and killed a two-year-old boy on a busy Kansas City street. The accident happened near the Crown Lodge Hotel near 67th & Blue Parkway around 2 a.m. Saturday.
The boy's family was supposed to stay at the hotel for two days. A woman who works at the hotel said she talked to the boy's mom when they checked in.
"We sat and talked about her kids," said Elizabeth Williams. "I was thinking the best place to be would be next to me because there are already kids there. I know it's quiet there so I figured it would be the easiest place to put them."
The boy's family says he wandered out of their room during the middle of the night and onto the busy road. A witness said she tried to turn around to see why the child was alone and wandering in the road, but by the time she got turned around, it was too late.
Williams is a mother of four and a resident of the hotel. She says the accident served as a reminder to her and a time to sit her kids down and explain the dangers of exploring the unfamiliar tone.
Police have not released the victim's name. FOX 4 learned the family is from Essex, Missouri which is in the southeast part of the state.
