KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police say a man was found shot to death in the street early Saturday morning.
Officers say it happened near the intersection of 69th and Prospect. They said the victim has been identified as 55-year-old Michael Knox. Police said Knox already dead from an apparent gun shot wound when they arrived on scene shortly after midnight.
Neighbors remember the scene vividly.
"It was around 11:45 p.m., 12 a.m., and me and a roommate were sitting outside and we heard gunshots," said Tycaria Foster.
Foster lives around the corner and said she heard at least three gunshots.
"I stayed outside to smoke a cigarette and then I saw the police the ambulance and I saw a white van and I decided to walk up the street and that's when I saw the guy laying there in the street."
Kamal Fajri calls the area home. He said the news doesn't shock him.
"I'm not surprised because that's just the way of life. I feel sorry for them, I hope I won't be the next victim," he said.
He and others want their neighbors to understand there's another way to resolve issues instead of turning to guns and violence.
"There is a better way out here you can live, you just have to educate yourself a little bit more," said Fajri.
"Instead of meeting up at the liquor store to get change together to buy a six pack, meet up at the liquor store to put change together to get the yards mowed in our neighborhoods, get the houses painted in our neighborhood, get the kids back in school in our neighborhoods," said Foster.
While the only thing left to do for one woman, is pray for those families involved.
"I just pray for them and hope God with hold them tight, I really do," said Christina Jones.
Police said anyone with information should call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-8477 or the homicide unit at 816-234-5043.
