KANSAS CITY, Mo-- Local, state and federal agencies will work together in Kansas City to try and curb violence.  The new initiative is called KC No Violence Alliance or KC NoVA.  The goal is to get the most violent and repeat offenders off the streets and target their associates as well.

But the approach is two fold.  Organizers say while jail is the only way to deal with some criminals, they hope to help others get on the right track by offering social services such as education, job training, anger management and more.

KC NoVA will be funded by a $74,000 grant.  About $30,000 of the money will be used by UMKC's criminology department to analyze data and do research. City leaders say the initiative is working in other cities like Boston, Indianapolis and Los Angeles.

Organizers say they hope Kansas City will see crime rates come down by next summer.
