Mo. River Water Rescue Shifts to Copper Theft Investigation
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fire Department rescue crews responded to a report Friday morning at about 8:00 a.m. about an empty boat and concerns the occupants fell into the Missouri River.
It happened about a half mile down from Isle of Capri casino.
When the rescue crew arrived, they found the boat, and began sorting through the information.
Lew Hendricks, the public information officer with the KCMO Fire Department says an electrician working at the Isle of Capri told them he ran off two men whom he suspected were homeless and were trying to steal copper wire.
Hendricks says that area has had several recent reports of copper thefts.
The electrician suspected the men were using the boat he saw in the river to transport the stolen copper.
Police say they arrested two men and are questioning them about the copper thefts.
