LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- A young Lee's Summit woman who survived an ATV accident says that she would not be where she is today without the help of first responders, and on Tuesday she had an opportunity to say thanks.

Kendall Moore, 19, suffered a brain injury from an ATV accident in Odessa last June. She says that Odessa emergency crews helped her to walk again, which allowed her to finish her first semester in college.

"To me, it takes a lot of bravery on their part and they're faithful, they have a caring spirit to care for people like me," said Moore at the first Great Saves ceremony at Centerpoint Medical Center. "Whenever people thought there was no hope, there was hope and it was because of them that I'm here."

The event also honored first responders with the Independence Fire Department and American Medical Response.
