KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A national competition is in Kansas City this week and local students are excited to be battling it out on home turf. The team from UMKC is one of 156 teams competing in the Students in Free Enterprise or SIFE National Expo.

UMKC's projects include one that received a $36,000 grant for a foster home. In April, the team won regional in Chicgao and was named the all-star team.

"We're getting a lot of ideas here at the national expo from other teams and looking to see where we want to go in the future and the impact we want to see on the community," said Beth Larson, UMKC SIFE team.

The top 20 leagues will compete in semi-finals on Thursday. The one team that comes out on top at nationals will proceed to the world competition.
