One Dead After Officer Involved Shooting
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Police are on the scene of an officer involved shooting that turned deadly. The shooting happened on Saturday afternoon near Independence Avenue & Brooklyn around 4:15 p.m.
Officers were called to the area to investigate suspicious prostitution related activity. Police say the man shot at two police officers. At least one officer returned fire which resulted in the suspect’s death.
“Someone called in saying there was a vehicle had three females in it believed they were involved in prostitution,” said Officer Darin Snapp with KCPD.
When police officers spotted the car involved in the call, the suspect took off on foot. Officers say it was obvious he had a gun. The suspect then ran through a nearby apartment complex and jumped a fence before firing shots at the officers.
“As the officers start gaining on him he turns around and actually fires at the officers both officers fire back at him,” Officer Snapp said.
Both officers returned fire and the suspect was hit. He died from his injuries. Police say a similar incident happened in April.
The victim has not been identified. Police will release his name when his family has been notified.
