KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kids learned the importance of Memorial Day with hands-on activity on Monday. Boy and Girl Scout troops from across the metro planted flags at the head stones of veterans buried at Mount Washington Cemetery in Independence.

"It is an honor to put flags on the military graves," said Tanner Scogin, cub scout.

More than 1,000 flags were planted and will remain at the cemetery for the remainder of the month.
