OSAWATOMIE, Kan. -- Authorities in Miami County say that woman was stopped and sexually assaulted by someone misrepresenting themselves as a law enforcement officer.
According to the Osawatomie Police Department, an 18-year-old woman was stopped on U.S. 169 Highway at 327th Street shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Monday night by someone driving a white Ford Crown Victoria with lights and a siren similar to the ones driven by law enforcement agencies.
That person then allegedly sexually assaulted the young woman for nearly an hour.
The suspect was described as a white male in his early to mid 20's with a mustache and goatee. He was 5'9" or shorter. He wore a black polo-type shirt and black pants with a law enforcement badge sewed on the chest. He had a gun and a badge on his belt.
The Osawatomie Police Department is requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the traffic stop or traveled on 169 Hwy at the Intersection of 327th Street during the hours of 10 PM and 11 PM on Monday night to please contact the Osawatomie Police Department at (913) 755-2101.
Authorities say that if you are traveling in Miami County and are being stopped by a police officer and you have any reservations as to the validity of the officer, you can call 911 and the dispatcher can verify the officer's actions.
If you do not have a cell phone you can proceed to the nearest police staion or the Miami County Sheriff's office.
