Teens Involved in Deadly Accident in Overland Park

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — One person is dead after an SUV drifted off the road before striking a guard rail and a tree. Overland Park Police responded to the accident around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday.

A witness told officers a black Isuzu Amigo was traveling west on 143rd Street from Quivira. The SUV began weaving as a male passenger was hanging out of the front passenger window. The SUV eventually drifted off of the north side of the street and struck a guard rail and a tree.

The 17-year-old driver and another passenger were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The male passenger, Nate Trinkle who was riding in the front seat and hanging out of the window died. Police have not released the victim’s name at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

A candlelight vigil will be held at Olathe East High School in Olathe, Kansas at 9:30 p.m.  Sunday night.
