KCMO Man Charged with Killing His Step-Father
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Missouri, man has been charged in the homicide of a man found dead on the front steps of his East Side home this week.
Don E Smith, 24, has been charged with first-degree murdher, armed criminal action and a misdemeanor count of violating an order of protection in connection to the Wednesday afternoon murder of 46-year-old William B. Smith at a home in the 2400 block of East 30th Street.
According to court records, Don E. Smith was William B. Smith’s step-son.
According to authorities, witnesses reported hearing gunshots then seeing Smith leave the residence around 3:20 p.m., carrying a hand gun. Witnesses told police that in July, Smith threatened to kill the victim if “certain people didn’t leave him alone.”
On July 30th, an order of protection was issued against Smith prohibiting him from having any contact with the victim.
Smith is in custody in the Jackson County Jail. Prosecutors have requested a $500,000 cash-only bond.
