INDEPENDENCE, Mo. Due to a break in a major transmission water main that supplies water from the Courtney Bend Water Treatment Plant, the City of Independence is requesting its water customers to voluntarily reduce their water use until further notice. The water main is located approx ½ mile west of M-291 at Cement City Road.

Water Systems Director Dan Montgomery reports the water supply remains safe, but this break reduces the amount of water which can be supplied from the water treatment plant.

In order to assure an adequate water supply for both domestic use and fire protection, customers are asked to avoid outdoor watering and unnecessary water use as much as possible. Repairs to this main are underway.
