KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City police are trying to find the gunman who murdered a young father on Sunday in front of three young relatives.
Police say Maurice Carter, 19, had just picked up his 1-year-old daughter and 4-year-old twin nieces and they were sitting in his car outside his home when two men drove up and both started shooting. Witnesses report hearing at least 20 gunshots.
One of Carter's nieces was grazed in the face by a bullet. His car and house were also riddled with bullet holes.
"The pain is unbearable and it's just so hard. He was like a son to me," says Carter's cousin, Juanita Sykes. "That was a cowardly, senseless and evil act. They didn't care that he had children with him."
Witnesses say the two gunmen took off from the scene in a silver car.
